COMING OF AGE
With his eighteenth birthday a week ago, Stuart technically 'came of age'. He got a smartphone from his absent dad, who works on the North Sea oil rigs. Not surprisingly, he didn't even get a card from elder brother Dan who is serving a six month jail sentence for beating the shit out of some bloke. Dan was always a bit of a bully, and tokens of affection were very rare.
Today Stuart is all alone at home waiting for a plumber to fix the leaky tap, and Dad and Dan are on his mind - two rough and rugged men a generation apart, yet who look so similar, and in Stuart's closeted gay eyes, incredibly fine.
Dad and Dan / Dan and Dad - they look the same and they sound the same, and in Stuart's incestuous fantasies, they interchange. They have so much in common and get on so well, while Stuart tends to be kept at a distance. Dan is probably a lost cause, but Stuart had hoped that with his brother's absence, the relationship with his father might improve. Sadly that hasn't happened. If anything it has deteriorated. But summer has now arrived, and school is over. And with two months of Dan's sentence remaining, Stuart has two months to turn things around.
But then what a surprise when Stuart answers the door. It isn't the plumber he was expecting - it's Dan who's been released early for 'good behaviour'. It doesn't sound like he was all that good, though. Dan got up to some very bad things, preying on weaker lads in the jail to satisfy his needs. And having fixed the leaky tap himself, he decides to shows Stuart how bad he was.
It's one of a whole series of shocking surprises that make Stuart's incestuous fantasies seem tame in comparison, and culminates in a Coming of Age party that's the biggest surprise of all.
